A full feature length film about Geralt of Rivia, the hero of Andrzej Sapkowski's novels and star of the video game series The Witcher, has been given a global release date of 2017. The film will be based on themes from Polish author Sapkowski's short stories, 'The Witcher' and 'Lesser Evil' from 'The Last Wish' collection.
The movie will be directed by Tomasz Baginski, whose film 'The Cathedral' earned him an Oscar nomination. Production duties will be handled by The Sean Daniel Company whose previous works include 'The Mummy' franchise.
However, developer CD Projekt Red, responsible for propelling the white-haired demon hunter to global fame with their video game adaptations, will seemingly not be involved.
This isn't the first time Sapkowski's work has been given the movie treatment. There was also a Polish-language take on the adventures of Geralt back in 2001.
This latest adaptation isn't looking like a one off though. Penned by Thania St John, author of TV series 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer', it will act as an introduction to the world of The Witcher franchise with film and television continuations also planned.
