Microsoft has mainly focussed on their own games this year, and Xbox chief Phil Spencer says they will continue in this direction as they look ahead to the future.

Sony, on the other hand, has struck a lot of new third-party deals and has made sure to get exclusive arrangements regarding high profile titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and Star Wars Battlefront, like they did last year with Destiny.

But even if Sony's first-party efforts seems like it's going to be a lot better next year, they won't slow down in their third-party endeavours. In an interview with MCV, European PlayStation boss Jim Ryan said:

"We are going to be strong with games that we have developed and we will publish, but third-party partnerships will continue to be important to us. The days of a platform holder working in isolation are long-gone.

"It is a connected ecosystem and relationships with publishers operate on many levels - they will certainly continue to be really important in 2016."
