Game Informer are reporting that Blizzard's FPS, Overwatch, is heading to consoles. They've heard this via GameStop (the site's parent company), with the American retailer apparently given the green light to start telling customers about the console-bound versions.

Apparently Blizzard's first foray into the world of first-person shooters will be a full priced release on PC, Xbox One and PS4, with a placeholder date of December 31 2016 and a price tag of $60.

This might clarify the financial situation regarding the game; instead of a free-to-play offering we might be getting a boxed retail release. Or perhaps we could have a free-to-play game but with special content included in a boxed edition. With Blizzcon kicking off tomorrow, we're expecting official confirmation to arrive shortly.

Update

Blizzard commented on the original Game Informer piece, saying: "We are excited to share more information about Overwatch with everyone at BlizzCon this weekend - so be sure to tune in to the opening ceremonies for free at www.BlizzCon.com."
