There's just five days left until we all make post-apocalyptic Boston our new home and the folks over at Bethesda have seen fit to make that wait a little more agonising with a look at the impressive graphics technology powering Fallout 4.

The studio's dev blog details the evolution of the Creation Engine and how it's used to maximise player immersion. Included in the upgrade is a new rendering system that allows for more realistic materials and improved dynamic lighting. A new material system means surfaces look wet after a storm and new cloth simulation makes cloth, hair and vegetation react realistically to wind.

Here's a sample of other additions to the Creation Engine:

• Tiled Deferred Lighting
• Temporal Anti-Aliasing
• Screen Space Reflections
• Bokeh Depth of Field
• Screen Space Ambient Occlusion
• Height Fog
• Motion Blur
• Filmic Tonemapping
• Custom Skin and Hair Shading
• Dynamic Dismemberment using Hardware Tessellation
• Volumetric Lighting
• Gamma Correct Physically Based Shading

Those who aren't particularly tech savvy need only look at the screenshots to see the striking visual impact the updated graphics engine has had on the war-torn wasteland. Fallout 4 launches on PS4, Xbox One and PC on November 10.
