While Nintendo fans still try to digest that there's no sign of a new main entry of the Metroid series for Wii U, and that the only thing related even remotely related to the series that they're getting is the team shooter Metroid Prime: Federation Force for 3DS, others are trying to capture, in their own way, what makes Samus Aran's adventures really great: the atmosphere, the universe, the mystery, the mythology. The loneliness.

Rainfall Films has just released Metroid: The Sky Calls, a live-action video with a dose of CGI effects that's a love letter to the franchise. Director Sam Balcomb was inspired by the original Metroid and not so much by the modern take of the Prime sub-series, and both Jessica Chobot (Nerdist) and America Young (who worked on Halo 5: Guardians mocap) are involved in bringing this Samus Aran's performance to life.

From the official description:

The classic Nintendo franchise, Metroid, envisioned through the lens of 60s-70s science fiction cinema such as 2001, Alien, and Solaris: this was the concept for Rainfall's most recent production. Instead of using a modern approach, a style was developed more in tune with the themes that inspired the first Metroid game in 1986: isolation, exploration, and the wonders of deep space.
