Quake Live has ditched its free-to-play financial model and the old launcher, with the game now fully migrating over to Steamworks. As the devs have explained, there's benefits to the move - fixes, updates, Steam Friends, chat, lobbies, a server browser, stats, achievements, anti-cheat measures, trading cards and Steam Workshop integration - but that hasn't proved enough to soothe the game's player-base.
It's not much of a surprise to hear that some of them are up in arms at the prospect of having to pay $10/£7/€10 to play a game they've previously been enjoying for free. Something that's caused even more vitriol though, was the decision to wipe player stats, friend lists and clans. Head over to the Steam forums if you want to see a fireworks display a week early.
