Capcom originally announced Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps at Tokyo Game Show last week, as a multiplayer team-based shooter. In an interview with Gamespot, designers Masachika Kawata and James Vance has revealed further details about the game.
For example, the game will be a part of the official canon, and takes place after the events of Resident Evil 6:
"It's almost in an ironic way that we're using the title Umbrella Corps. If you know your Resident Evil lore, Umbrella no longer exists at this time in the universe; it's been destroyed."
Vance clarifies, and says that you control mercenary parties that will "go into these areas where some kind of biological terror incident may have occurred to try to extract something with value." You're doing this on behalf of corporations that, essentially, want to "become the next Umbrella".
When asked whether the game will feature a campaign, Vance simply replied: "there's no forward-facing story".
