John Smedley has left Daybreak Game Company (formerly Sony Online Entertainment), and has set up a new business, it has been revealed.
Smedley, who stepped down from his position as company CEO last month, was supposed to be moving to a different role at the studio, but that no longer seems to be the case with his departure recently confirmed.
"On behalf of Daybreak, we wish Smed well in his new endeavours," a company rep said in a statement. "Any questions regarding his new business should be directed to him."
That new venture was confirmed by Smedley, who revealed on Facebook that he has started a new company, although there’s still no details regarding this and more information is promised “soon”.
Smedley was in the news last month when his public pursuit of Lizard Squad hacker Julius "zeekill" Kivimaki culminated in DDoS attacks on Daybreak titles including Planetside 2 and H1Z1. It has been widely speculated that the online attacks were linked to his shift within and subsequent departure from the company, although it may be some time before we finally get to the truth of this whole matter.
Thanks, Game Informer.
