Four big names in the gaming industry - Tim Schafer (Double Fine), Justin Bailer (former Double Fine), Brian Fargo (inXile) and Feargus Urquhart (Obsidian) - have announced the creation of a new crowdfunding service exclusive to video games, and it's called Fig.

Besides being unique to video games, one of the big differences between Fig and existing options such as Kickstarter and Indiegogo, is that it allows for differentiation between supporters (those eligible for rewards as is the case in Kickstarter), and investors (who may be entitled to revenue from the game) who invest a minimum of $1,000.

"Feargus, Tim and I have all experienced the many challenges of bringing our games to market and nurturing great talent along the way," said inXile's Brian Fargo.

"We're proud to be creating an ecosystem that better supports developers and their fans in the quest to bring their passion projects to life-and we believe Fig will become the best option to get games funded in the future."

It was also announced that Fig will only promote one funding campaign at a time, alternating between the creator's own projects and those from other independent studios. IGF winner Outer Wilds, from Digital Mobius, is the first game chosen to feature in a campaign, and it has a funding target of $125,000 USD.
