Windows 10 - Microsoft's new operating system - has been officially available since last month, and it's free to download for all Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users. As you might expect, users who have decided to switch to this new OS have had to sign a new EULA, an agreement which has some implications.

First of all, according to Gamerant, the new agreement allows Redmond's company to check the software installed on your PC and eventually disable pirated software (such as apps, games, etc.). However, in recent hours TechPowerUp reported that this agreement covers only "Microsoft Services", therefore for the moment software from other companies remains excluded from this "scan".

(Update - As reported over on TechReport, the clause that's causing so much concern is actually in the Microsoft Services Agreement and not the Windows 10 EULA, and it doesn't specifically mention scanning computers, rather it's focussed on checking select Microsoft-maintained apps and ensuring that they're up-to-date - pirated versions of software could, in theory, be disabled or rendered unusable by subsequent automatic updates.)

However, there is another aspect that is causing uproar and protests among Windows 10's new users. As reported by RockPaperShotgun, the new operating system can't run games using SafeDisc or some versions of Securom DRM, a big issue that makes many games unplayable, such as Grand Theft Auto III, the original The Sims and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004.

The reason behind this decision, as explained in part by Microsoft's Boris Schneider-Schon during Gamescom, is due to the fact that the SafeDisc system has always been deemed unsafe by the company, and unabling these titles is a way to make your PC more secure.

However, even if we can fully understand the reasons that prompted Microsoft to disable this system, it remains a shame that players - because of this issue - can't play some of their favourite old games anymore.
