Studio Wildcard has just made a trio of announcements. The developer has just released a tournament battle mode called "Survival of the Fittest", a total conversion mod for ARK: Survival Evolved that was made using the same Ark Dev Kit that they've just made available to their community.

The studio has also announced a modding competition to get things started, and the event is being sponsored by PC hardware manufacturer Alienware. Prizes and competition rules can be found here. Here's a few words about the new mode, plus some screenshots:

Each SotF battle takes place on a modified version of the ARK island, with the objective being to eliminate all other survivors before they eliminate you! The map is surrounded by a dome-shaped force field that shrinks as the match progresses, and leveling, gathering, taming and building happen at a quicker rate. As the contestants enter this arena, not only do they need to look out for the dangers from the creatures and the other survivors, but also randomized ‘Evolution Events.' These events take place every 30 minutes and have major impact on the gameplay, from freak weather occurrences, to dinosaurs dropping from the sky, extra supply drops, day-to-night shifts, player location reveals, and more.

ARK: Survival Evolved is currently out on PC via Steam Early Access, it's heading to the Xbox One Game Preview Program, and at some point it's also going to make its way over to PlayStation 4. You can read our impressions of the game here.
