Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli has been talking again, this time to Video Gamer. In the recent interview he revealed that the Warface devs are in the process of "transitioning from packaged goods games into an entirely free-to-play experience," because "the future is online and free-to-play."

"What this entails is that our future, all the new games that we're working on, as well new projects, new platforms and technologies, are designed around free-to-play and online, with the highest quality development."

Yerli used current project Warface as an example of how the studio is planning to adapt to the changing market: "As is evident in Warface, our approach is to ensure the best quality, console game quality. That implies budgets of between $10m to $30m - so no compromise there - but at the price-point of $0 entry"

It's unlikely that any of this applies to Crysis 3, but with Warface already announced as free-to-play, the transition mentioned in the interview appears to already be in full swing.
