A document has emerged that, if legitimate, may outline some of Microsoft's plans for the Xbox 720. The document was posted on Scribd, but removed on request by law firm Covington & Burling LLP (a firm that has reportedly worked with Microsoft before), but not before it was spotted by Joystiq.
The document in question is quite old, dating back to 2010, and so even if it isn't a fake, many of details listed could be irrelevant now. The contents expand on the details published on Nukezilla last month.
The 56-page pdf outlines some of the features we can expect to see on the Xbox 720, as well as suggesting a launch price of $299.99 and a release sometime next year.
The document also suggests that the next console will come with a Blu-ray compatible drive, Kinect V2 and augmented reality glasses (see the ‘Road to Fortaleza' picture below). The full document is still available to download from Game Informer.
The document lays out a few specifics, including:
"Whole Home DVR: Record in the background and serve up to any device in the household.
Remoting Server: Stream and play your AAA games remotely to any device.
Concurrent Experiences: Enjoy multiple experiences at once. Mix and match based on your needs (e.g. watch football scores with an NFL ticker as you play Gears of War 5).
Next Generation Kinect Gaming: A new more accurate Kinect sensor with dedicated application and system resources enables a whole new generation of Kinect experiences. Experience full fidelity next generation graphics with a full body high precision sensor.
Simultaneous four person play."
If it is a fake, it certainly is a convincing one. The fact that the document also mentions Spyglass tech revealed at this year's E3 lends it some credibility. Saying that, surely the point of a fake is to be convincing? Given the age of document and the element of doubt as to its authenticity, consider this as rumour until we hear otherwise.
