We know that Amiga 500 got many of you started on gaming. It was released in 1987, but two years prior - 30 years ago today - came the first model Amiga 1000. What it meant for gaming cannot be exaggerated as it was far ahead of its competition at the time.

After numerous poor decisions from owners Commodore the format lost its lustre during the '90s, but at that point we'd been treated to a decade's worth of gaming magic with lots of exclusive classics and the best versions of multi-format offerings.

In celebration of Amiga turning 30 today we've sourced our top five Amiga classics and they are as follows:

5. Frontier: Elite II (David Braben, 1993)

4. Lemmings (Psygnosis, 1991)

3. Sensible Soccer (Sensible Software, 1992)

2. Syndicate (Bullfrog Productions, 1993)

1. Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe (The Bitmap Brothers, 1990)

Naturally, listing just five games means we had to leave out many great games. Which games did you enjoy the most? Dune 2, Beneath a Steel Sky, Popolous, Cannon Fodder, Turrican II: The Final Fight, Moonstone: A Hard Days Knight, or something else entirely?
