Avalanche Studios who just released Just Cause 2 on PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360, began work on a new game based on a licensed property at the beginning of this year. Exactly what license they are working remains a secret for now. But since Avalanche is now focused on working on one project at a time this means we won't see a Just Cause 3 from them anytime soon.
Speaking to Gamereactor in an interview CEO Christofer Sundberg had the following to say about developing a licensed title:
"First of all, when we have looked a different licenses - some licenses are just plain boring to work on, it must be a fun license that fits with who we are and our technology, so we don't increase the risk. Which would have a direct effect making the project frustrating and boring, because we would have to developed new technology that would take focus from the core development, making the actual game.
That's how we look at things, then you have to consider development time. That there is a reasonable chance we can create something great. There can't be too much work getting approvals. Sometimes there are so many stakeholders involved in a license that it complicates things. There has been situations where we have been pitched projects from different directions, so you can tell there was some kind of legal trouble brewing."
