As we reported yesterday, the Kickstarter for Shenmue 3 has become the highest-backed campaign for a video game to pass through the crowd-funding site after recently surpassing the record set previously by Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
Since then the campaign has come to a close, and while it fell short of creator Yu Suzuki's ambitious target of $10 million, it has still attracted a healthy $6.3 million USD from backers. This means that yesterday there was a fairly significant last-minute surge of pledges taking it from the $5.6 million we reported yesterday, through to its final total.
Shenmue 3, if you're blissfully unaware, is the long-awaited sequel to the genre-defining Dreamcast originals, and it certainly ranks among the most eagerly anticipated video games of all time.
Its announcement came during this year's Sony press briefing at E3, where the now concluded Kickstarter was unveiled. The game is heading to PC and PlayStation 4, and developers YS Net are predicting that it'll be ready in December, 2017.
