A 17-year-old Canadian has been handed a 16-month custodial sentence after having been found guilty of a variety of charges, notably after harassing (mostly) female League of Legends players who declined his online advances.
The teen would approach LoL players on Twitter or directly via League of Legends, and if and when his attempts to make contact were refused, he'd then go on to harass his victims through a variety of means, including swatting.
Harassment regularly took the form of him calling in hostage situations, or by telling police that he'd killed someone, in the process sending armed officers to the addresses in question. He also frequently posted his victims details online and would call them late at night.
"I had a lot of time on my hands," the teen admitted, citing boredom as the reason for his actions. "I don't do anything productive, and that leaves me time to do criminal activity."
After pleading guilty to twenty-three charges, including extortion, harassment, public mischief, and a bomb hoax that saw Disneyland ride Space Mountain closed down temporarily in 2014, the teen was sentenced to sixteen month. Having spent eight months in custody already, he has another eight left to serve.
Thanks, CBC.
