Sega CEO Hajime Satomi has promised that the publisher will refocus on console gaming and increase the quality of their output, and has confirmed that there's an announcement coming during Tokyo Game Show.
Satomi has identified the broken trust between Sega and their dedicated fans, and while talking to Japanese magazine Famitsu he referenced the poor quality of recent Sonic titles, with Sonic Boom being the latest offering from the studio.
"We did our best to build a relationship of mutual trust with older fans of Sega," Satomi said. Looking back he said "some titles partially betrayed" that trust during the past decade.
"Sega in the 1990s was known for its brand, but after that, we've lost trust, and we were left with nothing but reputation," Satomi is quoted as saying. "For this reason, we'd like to win back the customers' trust, and become a brand once again."
Sega, once known for their consoles that competed with Nintendo back in the day, have recently moved towards digital releases and PC strategy games, a significant shift from a company fronted by nippy blue hedgehog.
