We've already heard Sony say that they've no plans to introduce backward compatibility to PS4 in the wake of Microsoft's announcement that the feature will be heading to Xbox One.

Now Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida has explained why: "PS3 is such a unique architecture, and some games made use of SPUs very well," Yoshida told Eurogamer. "It's going to be super challenging to do so. I never say never, but we have no plans."

"It was surprising," Yoshida admitted. "I didn't think it was possible. There must be lots of engineering effort. They talked about 100 games, but what kind of games will be included? Is it smaller games or big games? We don't know."

While we still have questions, we've tried back compatibility on Xbox One and for the most part it works. You can read about that here. PlayStation fans, on the other hand, will have to content themselves with PlayStation Now, Sony's rather expensive livestreaming alternative...
