D3 Publisher and Vicious Cycle have released the first screens from the upcoming action parody Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard on PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
Gamereactor's own Carl Thomas Aarum was in London for the first demonstration of the game, this is his take on it:
"In the 80's Matt Hazard was the hottest gaming hero we knew - he was the star of all the best games. He was the one to give us all the bloodiest experiences, and the first 3D game. He gave his all. Today he is a balding old man, with a big belly to go with his ageing looks. But he is back...
- The first thing we did was to ask ourselves; who is Matt Hazard? says Brian Etheridge, assistant producer on Eat Lead.
- So we went through a ton of bad 80's action flicks. Who is this guy? Is it Chuck Norris? Is it Dolph Lundgren? Finally we decided we didn't want one who was too self righteous, we wanted a fun guy, one who always has a witty line in reserve.
But the developer Vicious Cycle are clear about one thing:
- Eat Lead is first and foremost a third person action title with a deep cover system, and it wants to distinguish itself as a solid action experience. It just has humour added on top of it. If you don't get all the references, and can't get the humour, you will still have a great action game to play, Etheridge assures us.
During the ten minute long demo Matt Hazard disposes of angry butchers, slick mafiosos, zombies, cowboys and mechanic strippers. Nothing is sacred when Vicious Cycle make light of 25 years of gaming."
