The very promising survival game from Compulsion Games, We Happy Few, has launched its Kickstarter campaign. The goal is to gain CAD $250,000, and as you might have heard in the interview with creative dude Guillaume Provost the idea isn't to fund the entire game via Kickstarter. Instead Compulsion Games are asking for a modest sum that will allow for 2-3 months of community driven development during the alpha phase - the more money they raise the less time they will need to spend on Steam Early Access.
With the launch of the Kickstarter more of the concept is explained. You will be playing as one of several Downers (i.e. people who aren't on the drug Joy) - and you'll unlock more as you progress. Each will have their own story that will help tell the overall story of Wellington Wells.
The campaign has managed to attract 808 backers pledging CAD $32,379 in just over 4 hours. A promising start, but there is naturally some ways to go to achieve the target sum.
For now Compulsion Games are focusing their efforts on PC, but console ports could well happen at some point in the future. If you're interested in the game there's an Early Bird tier (CAD $25) to gets you a copy of the finished game (digital download), the lowest pre-alpha access tier will set you back CAD $60 (about £31).
