It's probably for the best, because the uproar would've been loud and plentiful, but Microsoft's Phil Spencer has shot down the rumours that Microsoft were trying to secure a deal to buy the rights to the recently cancelled Silent Hills.

Responding to a question on Twitter, Spencer said: "Sorry, this isn't true. Not sure where the rumor started but I don't want to mislead anyone."

Silent Hills was originally set for release on PlayStation 4, and involved a collaboration between Hideo Kojima and filmmaker Guillermo del Toro. That project was cancelled and the PT demo withdrawn in the wake of the fallout between Konami and Kojima, and at the moment the game looks dead in the water.
