Take-Two Interactive has just announced that they have shipped close to 52 million units of Grand Theft Auto V, across all five formats (PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS3, X360).
This makes it the fourth best-selling game ever, but in many ways it's the most impressive effort of them all. Tetris is the best selling game ever with close to 500 million sales, but it has been around since forever and it's a cheap game that also has been bundled with both handheld units and smartphones.
Wii Sports sold around 83 million, but most of these were with bundled units (the only market where it wasn't bundled with Wii at launch was Japan), and Minecraft at 63 million is also a fairly affordable game. Grand Theft Auto V hasn't even been around for two years and it's still selling extremely well, and while it was bundled with PlayStation 3, that is still nowhere close to the amount of bundles of other games.
10% of those sales came in the UK, where GTAV has registered five million copies sold since it was first launched; another hugely impressive feat by Rockstar's Los Santos-based open-world adventure.
