Playtonic Games' Kickstarter campaign for Yooka-Laylee (a spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie) has been highly successful. It only took 40 minutes to reach the initial £175,000 target and the $1 million equivalent was reached in just 5 hours and 41 minutes making it the fastest video game campaign to do so (only beaten by four Kickstarters overall).

Now Yooka-Laylee has achieved another milestone and with £1,584,549 pledged right now it is also the best ever UK video game Kickstarter (beating Elite: Dangerous). The campaign is closing in on 50,000 backers and there is still a month to go to the June 17 closing date.

"The response to Yooka-Laylee has been incredible and from all of us here at Playtonic, we really want to say a huge, warm ‘thank you' to everyone who has helped us exceed our goal," said Gavin Price, Creative Lead at Playtonic. "The enthusiasm and support from the community has been truly humbling. We're now in a fantastic position to make Yooka-Laylee at the level and scope that the fans have demanded."

Having beaten their stretch goals rather quickly Playtonic have set up a £2,000,000 stretch goal where they will make DLC after completing the game that will be given out freely to all backers.
