Chinese money keeps pouring into gaming. We've seen telecoms, mining companies and others investing in developers and, since 2015, a food holding has been expanding further and further into the industry. Leyou Technologies is about to close the acquisition of Splash Damage, the British studio specialing in multiplayer shooters.
In a statement Leyou Tecnologies announced the acquisition of Splash Damage, Fireteam, and Warchest from Paul Wedgwood through the subsidiary company Radium Maxima, for a sum that will not exceed $150 million dollars. The studio has worked as a contract developer on many shooters such as Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, Batman: Arkham Origins, and Doom 3. They even have their own titles, such as Brink and Dirty Bomb.
Leyou Technologies started its expansion into video games back in July 2015. After buying Digital Extremes, the developer of Warframe and co-developer of many games in the Unreal Tournament series (they also helped out on Bioshock 2's multiplayer), the Chinese holding company also paid $63.5 million dollars for the 81.25% of SNK Playmore.
But this wasn't the name of the company a few years ago. Leyou Technologies is a well known chicken supplier for retailers such as Kentucky Fried Chicken. Reuters says:
Leyou Technologies Holdings Limited, formerly Sumpo Food Holdings Limited (Sumpo), is engaged in supplying chicken meat products in the Fujian Province and sells its chicken meat products under the Sumpo brand. It has three segments: chicken meat segment carries on the business of slaughtering, production and sales of chicken meat; chicken breed segment carries on the business of hatching of broiler eggs and breeding of parent stock day-old chicks, and animal feeds segment carries on the business of feeds production. As of June 30, 2010, the Company had three breeder farms, one hatching facility, five broiler breeding farms, one animal feeds production facility and one slaughtering and processing facility. It is the supplier of chicken meat to Kentucky Fried Chicken, Dicos and Mckey.
