Fans have long been asking Frontier Developments for Steam keys for Elite: Dangerous, especially since the sci-fi space simulation launched on Valve's platform last month. Now the studio has relented and is making Steam keys available to all players who bought the game direct, with the keys being added to eligible players' accounts from May 28.
"We'll soon be offering Steam keys to anyone who bought Elite: Dangerous from the EliteDangerous.com store who would like a key, and to anyone who buys the game from our store in the future," Frontier explained.
"We always appreciate it when you buy direct from our store because it means we can put more into supporting and developing Elite: Dangerous, but we know a number of long-time players and backers like to play through Steam and we think it's fair everyone has that option, not just new players."
Elite: Dangerous launched on PC at the very end of last year, and you can read our review of the space sim here. Good news for console owners, the game is also heading to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 (although there's a timed-exclusivity deal that'll see it launch on Microsoft's console first).
