Alongside League of Legends Valve's Dota 2 is the most popular MOBA game (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) on the planet. And most people play it that way, as a MOBA. That means strategic action seen from an isometric perspective. Hectic yes, but ultimately mainly focused on tactical and strategical decisions.
But it doesn't necessarily have to be that way. In fact, you will soon be able to play Dota 2 as a third person shooter!
No, Valve hasn't made some drastic changes to the game, but thanks to their openness to community involvement modders have made new ways to play the game a possibility.
More specifically modder "BMD Dota" has created the mod "Action Dota" in which the camera is moved behind your avatars back, the controls are altered and you get familiar sounding praise for your "double kills" and "dominations".
It's still early days for Action Dota, and you can't try this yourself yet, but you can see an early version of the mod in action over on Youtube. Of course, Action Dota sounds a lot like Smite.
Cheers, Polygon.
