The numbers for digital sales on consoles in February are in, and they show a 3.7 percent decline compared to the same month last year. It appears that the record breaking months of November and December, with respectively earnings of $356 and $363 million, have made console gamers less willing to pay for new games or make in-game purchases in the beginning of this year.
Of digital sales of $233 million world wide in February, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare took the largest piece with $31.6 million. Although this might not come as a shock, we are surprised by how Techland's Dying Light has been doing. Released late in January, and staying a digital exclusive for a month, the game placed number five last month with a revenue of $13.6 million.
These numbers are presented by Superdataresearch who happen to mention something interesting when predicting the digital sales for the rest of 2015:
"We anticipate this month's downturn to level off during the coming few months, following a regular seasonal pattern but expect to see an upswing as the next editions of several major franchises like Halo and Resident Evil come out in the 2015 fall season."
This mention of Resident Evil is news to us, but it may just be a general example of a big game franchise. It's either that, or the blog knows more than we do. So far we've heard nothing other than rumours when it comes to Resident Evil 7...
