For what's closing in on a decade, sales of physical copies of PC games have rapidly declined in favour of digital solutions such as Steam. As such the shelves set aside for PC games in the stores have gotten small and smaller, but there has still been room for major releases. Albeit at times the box only served as fancy packaging for a Steam code. Until now that is.

According to retailer ShopTo summer blockbuster Batman: Arkham Knight will not appear as a physical copy for PC, meaning that the long-awaited game will be digital only on the PC platform.

The information has not been confirmed by publisher Warner Bros. as of yet, and it's still unsure if the decision applies to all markets. If it's true however Batman: Arkham Knight will be amongst the first huge AAA games to skip physical copies all together, which may have implication of future releases as well.

Now what about those fancy collector's editions? Will they be shipped with download codes for the PC version?

Cheers, MCV.
