After twenty years of service, Microsoft's internet browser - Internet Explorer - will be sent into retirement. IE will be replaced alongside the launch of Windows 10 by a browser codenamed Project Spartan, no doubt linked to the voice assistant Cortana (which, apparently, it will appear on several devices in the future).

Microsoft's marketing chief, Chris Capossela, said: "We're now researching what the new brand, or the new name, for our browser should be in Windows 10. We'll continue to have Internet Explorer, but we'll also have a new browser called Project Spartan, which is codenamed Project Spartan. We have to name the thing."

With Project Spartan set to be the main browser for Windows 10, IE will be relegated to being a secondary program on hand for compatibility purposes. Given the recent rise of Firefox, Google Chrome and others, it's no surprise that Microsoft has tried to breathe new life into their browser.
