Today on Gamereactor Academy you're getting a double feature of Unity CEO John Riccitiello and a presentation on Unity from the IT University of Copenhagen (ITU) focussed on shaders and rendering.
John Riccitiello is best known for his many years working at Electronic Arts. He joined the company in 1997 and worked there until 2004 when he'd risen to become President and Chief Operating Officer. He then went on to found Elevation Partners, a private equity firm, that would later buy Bioware and Pandemic Studios to later sell them on to EA. He was re-hired by EA in 2007 to serve as CEO and did so until his resignation in 2013. He joined Unity's board of directors in November 2013 and was named CEO of Unity Technologies in October last year. Additionally Riccitiello also sits on the Board of Directors at Telltale Games.
In this interview conducted at GDC he speaks about his vision, his thoughts on the future, the lessons he has learnt and what he feels Unity offers game developers.
The presentation on Unity's shaders and rendering from ITU will introduce you to some of the graphical tricks and effects you can use with the engine, detailing things like noise, particle lighting, smooth fading, procedural texturing and much more.
The show will air today at 6pm GMT / 7pm CET for Academy subscribers.
All you need to do to watch the session, and gain access to others (both past and future), is to enroll with Gamereactor Academy.
The Academy offers a series of extensive videos with industry figures offering insights into game development, inspiration and education, providing you with the information and knowledge you need if you're looking to begin a career in game development.
