One of the very best games of last year was Alien: Isolation, and it's no surprise to hear that developers Creative Assembly are working on a follow up. What we don't know is whether that next game is a sequel to Isolation, or a move in a completely different direction.
A job listing on the company's website at least confirms a couple of details, as it asks for an online/multiplayer programmer with "experience of development on XB1, PS4 and PC platforms."
"We are seeking an talented programmer has thorough experience developing a range of online features. We are creating another multi-platform AAA blockbuster and the successful applicant will be part of a team which allows our game experience to be shared."
The role is in the studio's console team, which likely rules out a strategy game heading to Xbox One and PS4 (and anyway, it's going to be a busy year for the strategy side of the studio with Total War: Arena and the recently teased Total War: Warhammer in the works).
A second job listing asks for someone who is capable of "working at the cutting edge of interactive graphics technology".
We're certainly keeping our fingers crossed for a sequel to Isolation, and it sounds like the studio are hopeful too. At the end of last year Creative Assembly's Gary Napper said:
"The plot for a sequel is a daily topic in the studio sometimes. People have their own ideas for where it should go, our writers have some solid concepts and yes, we do have a great opportunity to continue [Ripley's] story. If we made a sequel I would like to stick to the same terrifying single Alien approach but do more with the environment and interactivity within it."
