As soon as we found out that Elite: Dangerous was heading to Xbox One and PlayStation 4, our first question was whether or not there would be cross-platform play between the existing PC version of the game, and either one or both of the console versions.

Frontier's David Braben has confirmed that he likes the idea of bringing the feature to the game, although he does admit that the updating process on console, which is more restrictive than it is on PC, might prove to be a barrier.

"Certainly I like the idea of cross-play, I think the challenges for us, which sort of fights against it, is we've also said that we'll continue to do updates across all platforms, and what we didn't want was PC updates to be held up for whatever reason, like if there's a delay on another platform," Braben told PCGamesN.

"What we've said for definite is that they will be playing in the same world," Braben added, "the same background sim will be effecting the same stock markets and stuff like that. I would like to see cross-play as well. There's nothing presenting it technically, other than that the worlds might be slightly out of sync."

We're delighted to hear that Elite: Dangerous is making the transition from PC to console. To find out why we're so enthused, you can read our review here.
