In an interview with Gameinformer Microsoft's head of the Xbox division Phil Spencer said the 2014 holiday DDoS attacks have been a learning experience for the company.

Although it was Sony's PSN that took the hardest blow, Spencer finds no pleasure in their competitor's service being down. "It doesn't help me. All it does is put the fear and distrust from any gamer that's out there..."

He goes on by explaining how Microsoft has talked to both Sony and Nintendo on this very issue:

"I look at all of us together as this is our collective opportunity to share what we can about what we're learning and how things are growing. Those conversations happen, which I think is great."
