Some seem to love it, others hate it, but 'free-to-play' looks like it's here to stay. Sony says it will be a "significant part" of their future and that "it's going to be a really a big chunk of our revenues" in the upcoming years.

This was revealed by Sarah Thompson, senior account executive for the Sony free-to-play business at GDC: "We're really looking at this as a significant part of our digital business. I think that it's going to be a really a big chunk of our revenues in the next few years; 3-5 years. And it's already growing at amazing rates that are really quite surprising."

Thompson is of course happy regarding this development and says free-to-play on PlayStation 4 will increase and that they really believe in this concept: "I think that it is really stabilizing the business. And I think it's future-proofing us. I think that it's really taking us into where we need to be as a company. As a company, we do fully believe in free-to-play."

There is already a lot of games that have adopted this financial model on PlayStation 4 (such as Planetside 2, Orcs Must Die: Unchained, Warframe, and War Thunder). And by the looks of it, Sony seems keen on getting even more.

Thanks, Gamespot
