When Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics released the last Tomb Raider game in 2013 they had chosen to reboot the series with a younger and more vulnerable version of Lara Croft. Now it seems this move will also affect the third Tomb Raider movie.
In contrast to the previous Angelina Jolie films, Tomb Raider (2001) and Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Filth Life (2003), the third movie will feature Lara as we came to know her in the reboot (and the upcoming Rise of the Tomb Raider for Xbox One and Xbox 360).
In addition renowned writer Marti Noxon (Buffy The Vampire Slayer) is no longer associated with the project, and in his place Evan Daugherty (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Divergent) has been hired to work on the screenplay.
Although they had a fair amount of success the first movies are not exactly considered to be motion picture masterpieces, and a reboot with a younger and more personal Lara might prove a better fit for the big screen.
We will keep you posted as things progresses further.
