Do you remember Don Mattrick, Phil Spencer's predecessor as boss of Microsoft's Xbox division? He was behind the wheel during the time when it was decided that Xbox One would only work with a constant net connection, that it could not play loaned/used games, had a bundled Kinect instead of more hardware power, and he was the one that said Xbox One was a console mainly for things other than playing games.

That vision of the future eventually leaked (and was later confirmed), and it turned out that criticism from fans was absolutely massive.
Just a few months later Mattrick had to leave Microsoft. In his next role he became the boss over at Zynga (Farmville). However, his expertise doesn't seem to have brought much success for the company as they've had some troubling financial results, have released buggy games that were launched before they were finished, and the company's popular brands have been seemingly neglected.

Now the Wall Street analyst Richard Greenfield has had enough. Greenfield is very clear with his opinions and writes: "Zynga Needs A New Leader - Time for Don Mattrick To Go"

Greenfield develops his criticism somewhat in a CNBC interview and says: "I think what's really surprising about the company right now is that they appear to be making the same mistakes. Launching games too quickly, not doing enough consumer research on their games and pushing them out - the same mistakes that [former CEO] Mark Pincus was making when he was leading Zynga.

"Don Mattrick was supposed to be brought in - despite not having any experience in mobile gaming, he had been in the gaming world, certainly at Xbox and has a long history in console gaming. He was supposed to be the one who fixed all this, and yet Zynga seems to be stumbling and making the same mistakes all over again."

Of course this is just opinion at the moment, and it remains to be seen whether the writing is on the wall for Don Mattrick. Will he be able to turn things around for Zynga? Ultimately time will tell.
