Recently Sony Online Entertainment, who was in charge of developing such games as H1Z1, Everquset and Planetside, was sold to an investment company and renamed Daybreak Studios.

Now it seems that the new owner decides to cut down some costs and is laying off staff. This doesn't come as a surprise, as companies breaking from their old structures usually undergo some sort of rearrangement.

The studio sent Polygon an email confirming the layoffs:

"As part of a strategic decision to rationalise the business, Daybreak Game Company announced today that it will eliminate positions in both its San Diego and Austin studios. This alignment of resources better positions the newly independent studio for future growth opportunities and developments."

Daybreak Studios haven't commented on the extent of the layoffs, but we know that among the persons who have to go are former director of development at SOE David Georgeson, and former director of global community relation Linda Carlson.
