Yesterday Square Enix announced that Dragon Quest Heroes II: Twin Kings and the Prophecy's End will be released on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PS Vita, with all three versions landing in Japan on May 27. It's not yet clear whether the May release will also apply to Europe or not.

The May 27 release date is in fact the 30th anniversary of the franchise, and Square Enix made the announcement at a special press conference in Japan, which by all accounts was largely underwhelming, with those in attendance hoping for some news regarding Dragon Quest XI.

On May 27 1986 the first Dragon Quest was released on the old NES. The publisher wants to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the series for one whole year, starting with Dragon Quest Heroes II. Within the next twelve months Square Enix also plans on releasing Dragon Quest XI: In Search of the Departed Time, with the game in development for Nintendo 3DS, PS4 and Project NX.

During the press event it was also confirmed that there'll be some sort of collaboration with Universal Studios, but we're going to have to wait a while longer for additional details on that front.
