When the Kickstarter for Flying Hamster II was cancelled there was mention of a deal with FDG Entertainment and now the full effect of that has been revealed as the connection with the classic Wonder Boy / Monster World series is more evident. Flying Hamster II was always looking like a spiritual successor to the Monster World series anyway.

With original developer Westone having been closed down it appears Game Atelier are happy to step in to create what's likely the closest thing to a proper Monster World sequel we're ever going to see.

The new name of the game is Monster Boy and the Wizard of Booze as trademarks for Wonder Boy are still owned by Sega. But the studio will work together with Ryuichi Nishizawa, the creator of the original Monster World and it can be considered as an semi-official part of the series. Sadly there will be no more cute hamsters, but the new characters are more in line with the Monster World universe.

The rest of the game will be still intact with an huge open world and transformation mechanics for the hero (รก la Dragon's Trap). Michiru Yamane, known for Castlevania series and Suikoden, is still supporting the project and works on several tracks. Flying Hamster II was planned for PC, Wii U, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. No update on platforms has been announced.
