Microsoft has announced their financial result for the second quarter of fiscal year 2015, which ended on December 31st. And as usual with Microsoft, they made a lot of money with an operating income of $7.8 billion. The revenue for the Xbox business was down by 20% (year-on-year), which according to Microsoft was due to a decline in Xbox 360 sales and price promotions of Xbox One.
During that period of time, they also sold 6.6 million Xbox consoles. They won't specify how many of these were Xbox 360 and Xbox One, but analysts predicts it to be around 2 million for Xbox 360 and 4.6 million for Xbox One - which should put the latter on a total of 11.5-12 million consoles. This can be compared to 18.5 million sold PlayStation 4 units.
It's also worth noting that while Windows Mobile still hasn't gained any real success, the Surface tablets seems to be doing better. Surface revenue was $1.1 billion, that is up 24% (it also had a major Surface increase during the first quarter which ended September 30th 2014) and Microsoft says it's driven by Surface Pro 3 and accessories.
