The old classic slasher film series Friday the 13th will once again be turned into a video game. As usual Jason Voorhees seems to be up to no good, and this is the first time in 25 years (last time was 1989 for NES) he gets to headline a video game, so expect him to be more than little more vicious than usual this time.
Not much is known about the new Friday the 13th video game, but it will be an asymmetrical multiplayer game that can be played both co-operative and competitive, with a smaller group of people (teens, we assume) will have to face Jason and hopefully stay alive.
No formats or even the developer has been announced, so this might be something smaller such as a smartphone game or something more ambitious for the new consoles. It will be released in October this year, and the developers have all necessary rights, so expect content from the feature films but also from the upcoming TV series.
Sean S. Cunningham, creator of the original film, had this to say in an official statement:
"With a new television series on the horizon and plans announced for the thirteenth installment of the film franchise, we felt the timing was right to finally explore Jason, Camp Crystal Lake, and the rest of the Friday the 13th story in interactive form. We have some exciting new ideas for a game that supplies plenty of replay value, while delivering the kinds of thrills and scares that fans of the franchise have come to expect."
Thanks, EGM.
