Just the other day we told you that Steam had broken its own record for concurrent users over the holidays, but with Valve not resting on their laurels they've only gone and broken that record again, this time hitting the 8.5 million mark (8,500,087 to be precise).

Below are the top games by player count (both current and peak users for the same day as the record was broken). As you can see Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive still reign supreme, while strategy games Football Manager and Civilization V are still proving enduringly popular (particularly impressive when you consider how long Civ V has been around). Other than that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is still doing great numbers for a three-year-old single-player RPG, while Payday 2, Arma 3 and DayZ have also been well-played over the holidays.
