Square Enix recently confirmed that their trio of MMOs - Final Fantasy XI, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn and Dragon Quest X - have a collective figure of around one million subscribers. While that's not a huge amount in the grand scheme of things, the fact that Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda said that they provide "a solid revenue base" points to, at the very least, a satisfactory level of income coming in from the games.
Matsuda said: "Three major MMO titles - 'Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn,' which began operation last August, 'Dragon Quest X,' which was launched in August 2012, and 'Final Fantasy XI,' which has entered its thirteenth year of operation-maintain nearly 1,000,000 paying subscribers all together, and have established a solid revenue base."
So, not huge numbers, especially when you consider the fact that at the last head count, World of Warcraft had more than 10 million subscribers (following on from the latest expansion - Warlords of Draenor). That said, while Square Enix might not be turning over Blizzard-esque numbers, at least their portfolio is making them money and that means their games won't be taken offline anytime soon, which is good news for those playing the games.
