It has been announced on the official website of Transformer Universe that the game is being shut down next month, while still in open beta.
"We're hugely disappointed, but the game will be closing over the coming weeks before its full closure at 10am GMT on 31st January 2015.
As a team, we can't thank players enough for the support that they have shown us over the last few years of development, and even more so during our BETA period."
Transformers Universe has been in development for a very long time, but perhaps the decision shouldn't come as a massive surprise. Originally meant to be an MMO it would later turn into more of a MOBA - a genre that seemed lucrative at the time, but it has proven very difficult to challenge the likes of League of Legends and Dota 2 in this space.
The open beta started back in July and players who purchased Founders Packs as well as relics packs and starter packs will be refunded.
Word is that Jagex will now focus on their own intellectual properties such as the longlived Runescape and Black N Load that has a beta running on Steam.
