Atari have reported their latest financial reports and confirmed the closure of Eden Games (Test Drive Unlimited 2, Alone in the Dark). Eden Games was just a shadow of it former self after severe redundancies were made last year. Atari registered a loss of $4.8 million for the full year (down from $8 million), with digital revenues now accounting for 52.5 per cent of total revenue. In the future Atari will focus even more on the digital space and mobile games in particular.
Update:
"Our earnings statement contained a report about the divestment of Eden Studios. We want to make it clear that the studio has not closed and that we will continue to support the console and PC games of Eden Studios, notably Test Drive Unlimited 2, while this process is underway. The divestment is in line with our previously stated strategy of exploiting our popular intellectual property library on mobile devices, where he have seen strong initial success, and via online games and licensing."
In other words, the process of closing down Eden has begun, but it has not yet been closed down.
