Ubisoft have announced that Assassin's Creed II has sold in excess of 8 million copies worldwide to date and that it generated sales of $678.9 million for the third quarter (ending Dec 31) in their fiscal year.

Ubisoft also stated that the next instalment in the Assassin's Creed series, that will expand the story of Ezio is set in Rome. While it has no official title yet, it is doubtful it will be called Assassin's Creed III. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot stated in a conference call that increases the release frequency of key titles would not create fatigue, and that Ubisoft had noticed increases in sales for Assassin's Creed when the sequel arrived. Let's see if gamers are as keen to see a new Assassin's Creed every year as Guillemot.
