Expansive Worlds has confirmed that they're going to release theHunter: Primal in a few weeks. As explained in an introductory blog, the genesis for the new dinosaur-themed entry in the series was interns playing around with the game engine. What started off a project for fresh-faced trainees eventually turned into a fully-fledged title in its own right.
Originally called "Project Flintastek" (the origins of the name "Flintastek" is the giant dinosaur steaks the Flintstones would eat), Primal is heading to Steam before the end of the year. It has been made by Expansive Worlds and their aforementioned interns, along with some help from Avalanche Studios.
The studio made a point of confirming that the game would not distract them from their work on the core series - they even add that development on Primal is aiding the main franchise thanks to: "revamped high quality player models, a significant overhaul of the environment audio system, improved intra-species communication, improved intra-species interaction and improved animal behaviour including better attack behaviours."
