The most recent weeks has been somewhat less impressive for Sony, with reports suggesting Microsoft are selling more Xbox One units than Sony are shifting Playstation 4s in both the UK and US. There's also been important games like Assassin's Creed: Unity and the single-player mode of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare performing better on Xbox One. Now we can add another game to the list; Dragon Age: Inquisition.
If Digital Foundry is to be believed (and they're usually right) the game is both more stable and smoother on Xbox One, with PlayStation 4 having a higher resolution but at the expense of an uneven framerate:
"Performance-wise, both consoles do a good job of delivering a stable, consistent frame-rate but it is the Xbox One version that delivers the smoothest experience overall. Frame-rate drops are extremely rare, only appearing in the most extreme circumstances - for all intents and purposes we're looking at a locked 30fps. Unfortunately, the higher resolution on PS4 comes with a catch in the form of noticeable performance dips during strenuous sequences."
They end their tests by writing that PC is by far the best option and that PlayStation 4 is for those who don't mind dips in the frame rate and prefer crisp 1080p graphics (with the Xbox One running at 900p):
"If you don't mind minor frame-rate dips and feel that image quality is most important, it's easy to recommend the PS4 version. However, those looking for the most stable experience should instead opt for the Xbox One version."
