Robotoki has taken the decision to change the proposed financial model of their debut game, Human Element.

Rob Bowling confirmed the news to Gamasutra, explaining that the free-to-play model would have made it very hard for the studio to realise the game that they wanted without making it a premium product.

Human Element is an open world survival game set some thirty-odd years after the zombie apocalypse. Originally Nexon had signed up to publish the game, but that deal has been cancelled by mutual consent. As a result the studio has had to let go of some staff.

"As the game evolved we realized that the elements that make Human Element the most fun would be hindered by keeping it a free-to-play experience," Bowling said.

"We made the decision to switch to a premium experience for our players; which also meant that working with the premier publisher in free-to-play was no longer the best partnership fit for the game we were creating," he said.

Robotoki's first game is set to appear in November 2015, and should launch on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. A new partner has already been found and will be announced next month.
